At first it can be a wee bit shy, which means give it hand warmth to open it up a bit more! Once I did, this one bangs from the glass. What a whopping nose this gives. A unique profile presents itself. I absolutely adore the subtle peated layer in this combination. This is what I get excited about. Lots of autumn-like odors fill my nose. A lot of complexity here! Bramble, currants, nutmeg, licorice, meaty flavors, freshness as in pine tree, autumn storm tea and some subtle dirt-like flavors that come from the cask. Sweet chestnuts. It is really hard to be able to sniff the grain component out of this. The peaty flavors compliment the nose in a very subtle way but the added value is remarkable. What an interesting and fantastic nose.
 Taste; the quality nose continues great on the palate. Upon arrival this is incredibly silky and smooth. A lovely stuffed body offers a rich flavor bomb. The peat is more present on the palate making it a very dynamic and lively taste. The somewhat dirty-like influences from the ex-peated cask dance around with very mature and bittersweet flavors. For me it gives me Tutti Frutti, autumn leafs, dunnage warehouse, antique leather, honey and caramel candy. Mid palate a more assertive hint of some crushed black pepper starts to appear. It tingles on my tongue in a very pleasant way.
 Finish; it just doesn't stop giving. This long and lasting finish does a great job in continuing the flavors mentioned above but is still able to add new sensations. Soaked oak, almost giving that driftwood kind of experience. Charcoal, a whiff of smoked meat and subtle peat. Autumn flavors all over the place here as well. It reminds me a bit like pinecones.

 Well, this is a bold choice that has been rewarded in every way possible! Autumn forest and thinning warehouse. Old single grain and subtle peat created a very intense, rich and complex whisky. Fantastic is not a word I often use in terms of whiskey but this definitely deserves every letter of that word. Fan-tas-tic!!
